It’s in a stranger’s smile,
Flashed across the forbidding distance-
The flowers sent to your door,
On no special occasion.
The song that’s sung just for you,
With so much feeling in every note.
The understanding nod,
That props you up on a hard day.
The baked surprise from the neighbour
You’ve lived next to but hardly know.
The hand-written letter, the painted card,
In a world of cold technology…
It’s often in the little things,
The smallest gesture,
That love makes its way around.
Our challenge is to get you involved in a movement where love is not just the stuff of fairy tales and happy endings- it’s something real- something here and now.
Even though we wish we could, there’s times when we can’t change the way things are- we can’t make things instantly better for a stranger or a loved one in need. But what we can do is sit down on the cold floor beside them as they take time to catch their breath. What we can do is show our love and support –a single act of consideration is all it takes, sometimes.
So what exactly does this mean for you? Who can reach out and touch?
You know the little girl selling flowers on the street – we’re talking about her.
You remember the special school you drive past so often? How about stopping by sometime? Maybe you could brighten up some faces of the less privileged…
Or hey, if you love nature and feel strongly about it’s destruction, how about planting a tree? Or maybe nurture a plant on your windowsill? Reuse paper, recycle- you get the idea.
Of course you live in a world that worships youth, and that’s exactly why you could reach out to an older person who probably has a hard time getting through each day.
We know how comfortable it is to drive to work every morning but how about taking the bus today? Or, cycle or even walk it up if it’s possible?
That stray dog or cat that you’ve been taught to avoid- how about giving it a clean home or if that’s not practical- a good meal?
Be creative, think of new things that you can do- cook for someone, recharge their phone anonymously, jot down your thoughts into poetic words, give someone a hug- it could be dwarf or giant sized, as long as you act!
It just takes a finger to wipe away a drop of tear, just a thought for an act of consideration, Just a moment to think of a face with a frown and turn it all the way around- YOU could be the change your heart’s yearning for.
What is this blog about?
We are starting a social movement online, which will be titled ‘ALL FOR LOVE AND LOVE FOR ALL…’ We have begun this movement on Facebook as an attempt to mobilize contacts /friends by inviting them to be part of the movement, and then instructing those who have joined to make use of our blog in order to report or to share their experience of their act of love! It is a forum where people from all walks of life are invited to do some considerate act to anyone or anything from environment protection (like planting more trees, promoting the use of bicycles, car pooling, saving energy etc.) to helping the aged, disabled and children. Anyone who wants to make a difference in their own little or big way can be part of this movement.
How are we going to go about it?
We began this social movement online as we feel this is the fastest way to spread awareness today. We can target people from all over the world without restricting ourselves to any age group.. We would like all those participating in our movement to spread the word. As each person completes his/her task, he/she is required to post it on the blog ONLY. If you are interested, you can even post it on other pages with a link to the blog.
So get started! Make a difference.. ALL IN THE NAME OF LOVE !
What do you do when you see someone going through so much and you want to help but there's nothing you can really do to make things better?
ReplyDeleteThere are so many things that are not in our control, its not about making things better but an attempt to give them a happy moment which can even be something like smiling at them or giving them a hug or being a support. It's all about the effort that is considered.

ReplyDeleteSometimes if you actually think about it, just count how many times you say the word "I" in a day. We always think about ourselves and now it is time to think about others.

ReplyDeletei gave away my seat to an old lady in the bus. the bus was really crowded and she was feeling suffocated inside. getting to seat made the bus ride a little less taxing for her. and she thanked me saying not many youths do things like this now a days. it felt good to hear that comment.
ReplyDeleteThe meaning of love is two fold - love is like a banana. The good stuff is inside while the stuff outside is what makes people fall. The other fold of love is that there is no fold. When you fold that part of love, you end up in the wrong fold. So friends, love is like a fold. It has two sides. One side is the main fold and the other side is the back fold. When you fold the main fold, you get the back fold. But attempting to fold the back fold will fold all the folds in one big fold. That's love for you in 10 folds. Now let us look at each one of these folds

ReplyDeleteI am a member of NSS in my college. I have worked with many NGOs, but the most heartening experience was a 10 day camp we held as a bustee in Kolkata. We arranged for all amenities for the bustee dwellers and made them aware on different issues like Health n Hygiene, Literacy, Welfare Schemes and Unemployment. I was the leader of the group in charge of Literacy. We made the children realise the value of school and education. We played a lot of fun games with them so they enjoyed. This was truly a once in a lifetime experience!
ReplyDeleteI'm vehemently supporting Shah Rukh Khan and My Name is Khan in the terror that Shiv Sena is trying to create. I tweeted the Shiv Sena representative to get well soon. And I have also booked tickets for the first day first show. I am standing up against mindlessness, and for love.
ReplyDeleteI had a huge fight with my best friend a few days back. I haven't been speaking to her. One of our other friends has been trying to resolve the differences between us. Though my reasons for the fight are very strong, I gave our 'mediator' friend a chance and went for lunch today with her and my best friend. I went only to appreciate the effort that our common friend was putting. But I'm glad her efforts were fruitful and my best friends and I are best friends again =)
ReplyDeleteFor the batch of 2009-2010 in my college, I am the president of Dramatics Society. Now since college is getting over, elections have taken place for the new council. I love both my 'children' as I like to call them. And I'm very happy. I handed over the responsibility and gave them many tips on how to face the next one year. This not only made them excited but gave me a weird, unfathomable sense of joy.
ReplyDeleteThis valentines day, make someone who is deprived of love feel special.

I contributed my bit to the'save our tigers' campaign in our college.I gave it a thought for a while and discussed what we could actually do about it and realised that the least each one of us can do is to spread the awareness and ask people to think of the larger consequences when they use any tiger product- anything that uses our national animal as a resource. think over it and lets save these beautiful creatures from becoming history.
